Eric’s path to law began early, working in his father’s CPA firm before he could even drive. Those first experiences instilled in him the values that continue to guide Powell Legal—show up, support others, and earn trust through consistency and integrity.

After earning his J.D. and an advanced LL.M. in Taxation, Eric practiced in private firms advising small and mid-sized businesses on everything from entity formation and corporate governance to commercial real estate and financing. His ability to make complex legal issues understandable and actionable earned him recognition as a Rising Star among Ohio attorneys.

He then joined FedEx, where he spent over a decade managing high-stakes transactions and enterprise-wide contracts. In that role, he became more than a lawyer—he became a strategic partner to the business, creating contract tools, training leaders, and providing the kind of clarity that keeps organizations moving forward.

After twenty years in practice, Eric stepped away for a personal sabbatical to focus on family, service, and reflection. That time offered renewed perspective: law is not just about managing risk—it’s about understanding people, opportunity, and growth.
